SEO on a budget

While SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is itself quite an expense when utilizing the service of experts, you cannot avoid missing out on the higher visibility on the web. And this is where finding the right SEO company or individual within the confines of your budgeted expense, can be a daunting task. If you are new to posting your page, know that there are SEO companies that can work with your budget. However, do not compromise on the quality optimization for the benefit of low pricing, as that may not provide any ranking leave aside the visibility. Remember that it is precisely for this marketing leverage that you are doling out payment to the SEO experts.

In effect, the right SEO on your right budget should be able to ensure the following.

* Despite the heavy competition, keep your web page in ranking contention. Understand that there are others who have also deployed the services of experts in SEO.

* The ranking and the regular visits should add up to increased revenue whereby the returns on SEO investment are really worth the money.
*
When you have defined the kind of need that your page must register, the SEO can ensure that the target clients are directed towards it.
* In all fairness, do not expect overnight miracles from the SEO. You have to ensure that you have the sufficient time back-up to come to the ranking stage and then stay there on the strength of your long tail key words.
* With high competition not just for you but also for the SEO expert, you can actually negotiate your terms. Better would be to try and learn SEO.

To ensure that you are getting the proper deliverables from the SEO on a budget, ensure that the SEO does not use optimization by spamming. This may give an instant increase, but the drop will be so bad that it may never bring you back into contention. The budget should include provision of proper search keywords as well as the online links for greater market penetration. These links should have relevance to what you are promoting, and not just haphazard links merely to show more connectivity. These will neither have any significance to your business and are meant to be just ‘fronts’ to justify the SEO payments. Be doubly sure as in the long run, it can prove more disastrous than not having a web-link page.

In the functioning of SEO on a budget, it is worthwhile knowing that the pages on the search engines grow in leaps and bounds per day so that the competition level is always very high. Know that you are always in deep water and the SEO is only trying to keep your head above to be able to breathe. Know that it is difficult for all businesses to stay in top contention continuously as even the SEO is getting smarter in staying a step ahead of the ranking criteria. And above all, know that the SEO on a budget is not a far-flung thought and neither impossible to obtain. In fact, you should let the SEO expert worry for you on your website visibility, optimization, and ranking.

Organic SEO

Organic SEO (Search Engine Optimization) has nothing to do with ‘going green’. The term merely refers to the manual type of page optimization in contrast to the automatic submittal and page alteration. In fact, most people consider ‘Organic SEO’ to be a term that best describes the free, algorithm-driven results of any particular search engine. However, to any sophisticated search engine optimization company or expert, the term ‘organic’ is not limited to what shows up in the ‘natural’ search engine results but also includes the methodologies used to achieve such rankings. The ‘organic’ is also in sync with the thought that a good website does have the characteristics of a living organism, that it builds upon itself, that it learns the means of adaptation for its own benefit, and that it tries to establish itself at the top of the search engine results much like the food-chain. Once this Organic SEO begins to thrive and assert its existence, the artificial machines are rendered quite useless. It may be pointed out that search engine users tend to trust organic results more than the paid ones and are therefore more likely to click and convert to them. This despite the fact that the sponsored listing may be higher placed by virtue of the bought space.

Organic SEO are not spared with the myths that surround them, mostly due to the ‘cause and effect’ of misinformation. Let us list some facts for reference.

* It does not necessitate that you submit the URL. The practice has been disbanded for quite some years now.

* You do not need a Google Sitemap for set-up, and do not be under any notion that it would facilitate a better ranking.

* Some of the highest ranking sites have not been touched for years. So if you plan to frequently update your pages, think twice.

* Some believe that by adding Google AdWords or placing PPC Ads, their ranking will either go up, or come down. Neither will happen.

* Google guidelines are best if read as guidelines, and your site will not be banned provided you do not stray outside the confines of the search engine regulations.

* It is virtually impossible to determine ‘paid’ site links, and then to banish them from the search profile. Though Google does lay stress on this, and if the paid-link factor is confirmed, at the most they will discount you from the ranking, and not de-list your site.   * The H1or any header tag on your design will not make any difference where ranking is concerned. Place it only if the design needs it, and not for the search spider.

* The Meta keyword tag is ignored by Google, so no point using it.

* Try to optimize what you need to convey within 250 words with the keyword phrase like for example here it will be ‘Organic SEO’.

* Avoid long-tail keywords. Not many will be searching for those.

Before we wind this session, do ensure that you personally test as many times and on as many sites. Also keep in mind that for organic SEO, there are other factors involved.

Good SEO for e-commerce sites
SEO for e-commerce is quite different from SEO for websites.  They come with their own challenges. If you are a small ecommerce businessman, you must have noticed the difficulty.  The basic thing is that content, or rather, copy plays a very important role in SEO and ecommerce sites have very little content.

There are a few tips that can help you achieve enviable ranking using SEO specifically for ecommerce websites.

Just remember that words of any kind, or coding counts as content so you can design your ecommerce site accordingly.

You need to use keywords.  These are very important for any kind of search engine optimization.  Make a key word list.  This needs to be used in each and every area of your ecommerce website.

Suppose you are selling wedding dresses and accessories from your ecommerce site, you need a list having “wedding dress”, wedding dress online, wedding dress boutique online.  These will do for your home page.

Now let us come to the different pages.  What does each page deal with?  Do you sell accessories?  Are you selling flowers and other decorations?  You could have different pages dealing with the types of dresses you sell.  Optimize the same key word on all the pages.  For instance “formal wedding dress” ‘discount wedding dress”, “outdoor wedding dress” and so on will help optimize your keyphrase.

Since the search engine indexes each page separately, you have an opportunity to make each and every page stand out.

You need to optimize your site navigation.  Create category and page names using keyphrases.  However, ensure that they are manageable in length and not too long.

The above mentioned key phrases like formal wedding dress, discount wedding dress etc can work for your separate categories.

These are applicable to your site, and to your categories.  Let me explain.  Go to the websites content management system.  Name your first category as “formal wedding dresses” and name your first navigational link as “formal wedding dresses”

Your keyphrases can also work as individual url page links.  Formal-wedding-dresses can be a navigational link too.  It is not feasible quite often, but it can be done in certain cases.

Use long tail key words as a breadcrumb trail.  For instance home>wedding dresses>formal wedding dresses>victorian.  It creates navigation reference for your visitor and acts as a long tail key word.  This long trail of key words works well for your customer and the googlebot.

Use alt tags and image attributes for your descriptions.  These tags work the same way as anchor texts do.  So use your keyphrases here.

Lastly do not ignore copy.  Good copy is extremely vital for your site.  It communicates with your visitors, converts them into buyers.  Search engine spiders love it.  So ensure that your site has well written copy.  I agree that e-commerce sites do not have much space for copy.  Many ecommerce site owners shrug away copy because they cannot take the time out to write articles, with the many things they have to do. You could outsource it to an SEO expert who will do it for you.

Dominate the search engines using SEO
The first thought that may strike you is why you need to be at all in this race for a ranking when all you want is people to come and view your site. Right? Well, all that does sound noble, but who will see your site if it is not in sight? And that is what this getting into the top 10 ranking using the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is all about. And to help you optimize that choice, you have professional companies, self-employed experts, and even you could learn the SEO for your own advantage. Some SEO pros not only guarantee  that your site will hit the first page to be in contention, but also assure you of a higher trust, recognition, brand image, and site links for advancement. The last few pointers are no doubt add-ons in their own marketing tactic because the site is your own design and words, and they do it with some jugglery of the keywords to get you on the internet search bill-board. Once you have determined the kind of service package you require that matches your budget, the SEO experts will even provide a regular feed-back on your page listing and the related increase in links.

Let us be clear that whether it is Google, MSN, Yahoo, AOL, Netscape, or any other search engine, that there are more than 200 million searches per day conducted on these sites. This speaks of the awesome volume of traffic. And in this traffic of searchers, you certainly want to ensure that your page with whatever you may be selling or featuring is amongst those that get the ‘hit’. There are literally close to a million pages being added to these search engines on a daily basis, so competition is very intense. It is in this arena that you need to be noticed, and to be noticed you need to be in the top 10 ranking, and to place you there is the task of the SEO expert. They will optimize your web site by changing certain elements to make the search engines ‘believe’ that your site is highly relevant to the searcher's query, thereby provisioning a top 10 ranking. The changes that the SEO expert does will not drastically alter the look and feel of your web site, and may even increase the incoming links to boost the popularity, or include its submission to some top directories, or even issue press release and set-up blogs.

The first attempt should ideally be your own initiative. Who knows how high you score by the sheer strength of the words you have used with special emphasis to the keywords (avoid single word) that initiate the search spider to move towards your page. To get to anywhere near the top 10 ranking using the SEO, do refrain from highfaluting vocabulary and keep it simple language with minimum of words to convey the maximum message. It is tough out there, so tough in fact that there could be thousands of web page owners who are reading this note simultaneously to get to the top 10 ranking using SEO.

TOP TEN SEO MISTAKES

Badly Researched Keywords

This is a common mistake made not only by inexperienced people, but, sadly by experts in SEO too.  The reason for this is that key words are subjective.  For you fish and smell may equate, but for another perfume and smell equates.  Subjectivity does not work in a business.  You need to get into the mind of the person using the search engine to see what equates for him.  There are useful tools on the internet that you can use.  Website Keyword Suggestion Tool is a great one and can help you get the right key word.

Neglecting the Title Tag

The title tag looks like this <title>.  This is the place that should have your well researched and perfectly optimized keyword.  This is one of the first things a crawler crawls over and indexes.  So, do not leave the title tag empty.

Using too many meta tags

This is something that was useful in the past but no longer is.  Already search engines have started ignoring them.  So stop wasting your time on them.

Using Images for Headings

Remember that search engines can not crawl pictures.  Title, Headings, Tags, Links etc are what search engines index.  Even if you think that a picture speaks a hundred words, remember, search engines can not hear those words.  If you want your website optimized for search engines, use headings, titles, tags and links.

Not optimizing the url

Do not ignore the url.  Get yourself a domain name related to your business.  If you sell spices and your domain name has spicenet or some such related name, it would be wonderful for your page rank.  If you do not get his at dot com, look for it in dot org or some other variant.  If will help get you ranking.  When your customer is searching for spice, your website is sure to come up first.

Using a flash website without a html version.

This is simple.  A spider can not crawl and read flash, so your website will not get indexed.  You need to provide html along with flash if you go for a flash based website.

Java websites

Yes java menus are wonderful for navigation but search engines do not read Java either.  If you are using Java, get your SEO expert to build you a sitemap with your links so that your links are crawled and indexed.

Useless backlinks

More backlinks does not convert into higher indexing by search engines these days.  Webmasters often mistakenly assume that this does, and go to link farms and backlink spamming.  This is a huge mistake and can get your website banned.  Get quality backlinks that are relevant to your website.

Not optimizing the content

You need to have keywords in your content.  Modify your existing content to insert keywords where they appear natural.  Highlight them, use upper case, make them bold.  In fact advertise your keywords in your website in this manner so that they get indexed faster.

Maintain your SEO

SEO is not a one time thing.  You need to constantly read about what is happening, tweak your website, and keep on optimizing it.  There are so many changes that take place and you need to update yourself and your website as per these changes.
